Smart cities are on their way globally, but there are still challenges to be solved in how to harness digital solutions for the benefit of cities and their residents. Boosting safety, well-being and versatile innovative services - and ensuring that they will be within everybody's reach - requires developing a new kind of digital infrastructure and high-capacity networks for the needs of growing data transmission.
LuxTurrim5G is a project that will bring big data capacity available for residents and companies through a network of smart light poles with antennas and base stations for the novel fast 5G networks. In addition to working as energy-efficient street lights, the light poles will create a high-capacity data transmission network that is within the reach of all urban users. The light poles will also include different types of sensors, information displays and even security cameras for creating a smart and safe urban environment.
Driven by Nokia Bell Labs the project gathers together major Finnish companies and research institutes including Sitowise, Exel Composites, Premix, Lammin Windows and Doors, Vaisala, Indagon, C2 Smart Light, VTT, Tampere University of Technology (TUT), Aalto University and Spinverse. Teleste will take part in the project by developing low maintenance displays and solutions for CCTV, information and advertisement.
