Cable TV networks are running out of free frequencies due to increasing number of TV channels with higher video resolutions and always growing need for higher broadband speeds. New DOCSIS® standards promise better performance, but may require even 192 MHz wide frequency slots for full utilization. The new services - TV and data - need bandwidth which our solution for statistical multiplexing can release without compromising service quality.
Luminato streamlines the received content
Teleste Luminato receives free-to-air and scrambled services from satellite, terrestrial, cable and IP sources in various resolutions up to UHD (Ultra High Definition) and in several compression standards. Luminato offers advanced means for filtering out service components that would otherwise load statistical multiplexer unnecessarily. With the advanced transport stream processing feature, operator can select the services and components which are relevant to his network - either to save bandwidth or otherwise simplify the outgoing stream content.
Reach 20% higher capacity
Although filtering out unnecessary stream components in Luminato makes a great difference, the biggest benefit is achieved by performing statistical multiplexing in Teleste Optimo. As a result, the capacity can increase 20% per multi program transport stream (MPTS). Further, Optimo allows defining of min, max and nominal bitrates of individual video components, their priorities and maximum bitrate per MPTS, which gives great flexibility in balancing between quality and capacity. Thanks to the clever algorithms, the sum of peak bitrates can exceed edge QAM capacity without compromising error free and high quality video transmission.
Ideal network topology in every case
Luminato makes the compact content stream from Optimo ready for the network. Once streamed in, the Luminato quad edge QAM modules multiplex additional components, like PSI/SI tables with the dense MPTS that Optimo supplies. The edge QAM modules can perform scrambling and support MPEG transport streams likewise all Luminato receivers. The edge QAM modules can be hosted in the same Luminato chassis with Luminato receivers or they can be placed in remote headends. All modules have an IP connection that offers freedom to select the ideal network topology in every case.
