Versatile Compact IP68 Enclosures and Underground Point of Connection Solutions for Easy Customer Connections and Repairs
To quickly & easily connect customers on underground & aerial FTTH networks, various connection points are required in the last mile and distribution network. These connection points could be in a ducted network or more possibly in a non-ducted network i.e. where the FTTH cabling is directly buried in the ground or delivered aerially via poles or strand mounting. Thus, the connection point needs to be versatile enough to handle all these installation requirements and ensure customer connections are made trouble free and long lasting.
Ideally products should be designed & manufactured such that they can be installed in whichever application is required. This ensures consistency of product deployed, increases product familiarity whilst at the same time reducing product training, and reduces stock inventory by not needing to hold so many different varied products.
To ensure the products can be deployed in all these scenarios, the enclosures should be rated for outdoor environments at IP68. Furthermore, they must be easy and simple to operate whilst maintaining IP68 integrity when closed, making fiber connections safe and secure.

The IP code or ingress protection code indicates how well a device is protected against water and dust ingress as defined in IEC standard 60529. The code consists of 2 digits; The first digit indicates the level of protection the enclosure provides against ingress of solid foreign objects. The second digit indicates the level of protection that the enclosure provides against harmful ingress of water.
In the case of IP68, the first digit 6 defines the product as Dust-tight meaning there is no ingress of dust tested in an airflow over 8 hours. The second digit indicated that the product is suitable for immersion in water to a minimum depth of 1 meter.

- FMN2 is a compact enclosure, designed for up to 2 customer connections using adapters or directly spliced and supports pass through cabling. Additionally, it can support up to 2 splitters and 12 splices in clip-in modules fitted to the enclosure base. Ideal for direct-buried applications, it is easy and simple to use, making the overall installation quick and efficient.
- FMD1 is a customer connection and distribution enclosure, supporting up to 24 customers. Its modular design supports various applications for splicing, splitting and customer connections with multiple flexible cable entry ports.
- FME4-D is a unique underground customer drop node for 48 customers, designed for placing in underground chambers, particularly where above ground street cabinets are not allowed or desirable. The enclosure is designed with 6 customer connection modules supporting 8 LC drop connections with optional splitter. The network side of the enclosure supports main cables along with splice trays for business and MDU (multi-dwelling unit) cabling as needed.
UPoC – Underground Point of Connection is a unique alternative to above ground street cabinets. This is a highly versatile range of enclosures mounted on a galvanized steel frame which allows the enclosure to be stored horizontally in a chamber and rotated 90 degrees to the vertical position allowing the items inside to be worked upon.
Multiple configurations of FTTx solutions can be incorporated into a UPoC. These include splice & splitter trays, ODFs & patch panels and fiber & duct management along with various other equipment which can be mounted onto bespoke back panels which are then fixed inside the enclosure.
Traditional items such as fiber distribution enclosures and splice/splitter fiber closures along with other types of equipment can be mounted within a UPoC. Internal hinged doors and frame assemblies can support these items making them easy to install, upgrade and maintain.
The UPoC is available in a range of sizes to easily fit multiple chamber types.
