Next-generation passenger information across Oslo’s public transport network
Teleste, in partnership with ZetaDisplay, has delivered a network-wide modernization of passenger information displays for Ruter AS, the public transport authority serving Oslo and Akershus. The new system replaces aging infrastructure with next-generation TFT LCD displays and a centralized digital signage platform, delivering clear, real-time travel information across the city’s multimodal transport network.
In a nutshell
- Modern TFT LCD displays provide clear, real-time travel information across all modes of transport
- Centralized platform simplifies content management and updates
- Enhanced readability and accessibility for passengers
Ruter AS
Ruter AS plans, coordinates, and procures public transport services across Oslo and Akershus. Its multimodal network spans buses, trams, metro, trains, and ferries, serving daily passengers while supporting sustainable and user-focused mobility in the region.
The challenge
Ruter’s legacy passenger information displays were outdated and limited the delivery of timely, reliable real-time updates. The network-wide renewal aimed to:
- Establish a scalable platform for future digital services
- Provide accurate, up-to-date travel information at all stops and stations
- Improve accessibility and readability for all passengers
The solution
Teleste supplied stretched TFT LCD displays integrated with ZetaDisplay’s digital signage platform. Key features include:
- Sizes: 36.6″, 37″, and 42″ stretched-format TFT LCD displays
- Operation: 24/7 capability
- Brightness: Ultra-high brightness (up to 2500 nits)
- Viewing: Wide viewing angles for clear visibility from different positions
- Durability: Robust aluminum casings with anti-reflective laminated glass, ensuring readability in all lighting and weather conditions
- Sleek door profile with narrow masking for modern appearance and enhanced visibility
- Integrated display unit controller, ensuring reliable performance, operational efficiency, and cybersecurity
The displays are robust and designed for outdoor operation in all conditions. Connected to a centralized platform, the system enables network-wide content updates, remote monitoring, and efficient maintenance.

Deployment
The solution has been implemented across approximately Oslo and Akershus transport network. The centralized platform ensures consistent information and simplifies network-wide management.
